A
test of the X-301, an experimental spacecraft adapted from two Goa'uld
Death Gliders, goes awry, sending Colonel Jack O'Neill and Teal'c hurtling
out of Earth's orbit. As the X-301 streaks through space at a million miles
an hour, the SGC struggles to find a way to retrieve it. But after an attempt
to alter the spacecraft's course fails, things look grim. Dr. Daniel Jackson
seeks the help of offworld allies. He learns that the Tok'ra have a ship
capable of reaching O'Neill and Teal'c, but it is on a covert mission in
Goa'uld-controlled territory. With time ticking down and the lives of their
comrades hanging in the balance, Major Samantha Carter and Daniel must
locate the Tok'ra ship, intercept the X-301, and pull off a daring rescue.

Paul:
"Colonel Jack O'Neill, Major Samantha Carter, Dr. Daniel Jackson, allow
me to introduce to you Lieutenant General Vidrine."
General Vidrine: "Colonel." Jack: "General." General Vidrine: "Major." Sam: "General." General Vidrine: "Doctor." Daniel: "General." General Vidrine: "General Hammond has told me nothing but good things." Jack: "Has he, sir? Well, then I'm sure he's left something out." General Vidrine: "Such as?" Jack: "Teal'c? Ya there, buddy?" Teal'c: "Look immediately to the southwest, O'Neill." Jack: "Wooooo Hoo Hoooo!" General Vidrine: "What in God's name is that?" Paul: "That, General, is the X-301 intercept." Jack: "Lookin' good, Teal'c. Give us another fly-by, low and slow." Teal'c: "As you wish." Paul: "It's a hybrid craft, sir, made with a combination of good ol' American know-how, and two Goa'uld death gliders that SG-1 recovered a couple of years ago."
Paul:
"Upon completion of a fight-test program, we hope to deploy the X-301 as
an orbital defense craft under your command, sir."
General Vidrine: "In all seriousness... if that's all right with you, Colonel... how effective can a single fighter be against a potential fleet of Goa'uld warships?" Teal'c: "That is what these tests endeavor to determine."
Jack:
"Request permission to proceed with weapons test."
Paul: "You're a go, Digger 1." Teal'c: "Proceeding to target area." Sam: "Copy that. You're a go for phase two." Daniel: "That's them?" Paul: "The X-301 is equipped with stelth technology, normally wouldn't show up on radar, so we've installed a special transmitter for the test."
Sam:
"Digger 1, Digger 1, this is flight. They're not responding."
Paul: "We're experiencing atmospheric interference." General Vidrine: "Major Carter?" Sam: "The glider was setting up to attack the target drones when it accelerated into a steep vertical climb. It's off our radar. We're attempting to reacquire tracking." Daniel: "Are you saying they've gone into orbit?" Sam: "I'm saying they're headed straight out into space." General Vidrine: "You said the 301 was capable of space flight." Sam: "Yes, sir, it is, but that wasn't part of the test." Daniel: "No, Teal'c wouldn't do this intentually. There has to be something wrong." General Hammond: "A malfunction?" Sam: "Must be, sir." General Hammond: "Get me the shuttle action officer at space command." Sam: "The shuttle won't be able to reach them , sir, unless we can find some way to turn them around." General Hammond: "It's all we've got." Paul: "We're got NASA's deep-space tracking looking for the glider now. Now, with the DSP and NORAD data, they should be able to get a hack on it and hopefully restore communication."
Daniel:
"Digger 1, come in. Jack or Teal'c, please respond. Nothing."
Paul: "NASA Deep-space tracking is trying to boost the signal." Daniel: "General, maybe we should contact our allies capable of space flight, tell them our situation." General Hammond: "Proceed, Doctor. SG-2 will stand by to assist." General Vidrine: "How fast is the glider going now?" Paul: "Roughly a million miles an hour, give or take. At least they're no longer accelerating." General Vidrine: "George, maybe it
would be best if I returned to the Pentagon, see what
General Hammond: "Yes, sir." Sam: "Sir, I have an idea, but a whole lot of things have got to go right in order for it to work." Jack: "Cheyenne, we have a problem!" Sam: "Digger 1, this is flight! Reading you five-by." General Hammond: "Why haven't they responded?" Sam: "We'll have to wait for it, sir." Paul: "It's the time lag, sir. The length of time it takes our radio signal to travel from earth to the X-301 and back."
Sam:
"Colonel, you're so far out, there's already a time lag of a few minutes,
so conversation is gonna be a problem. We've received some preliminary
tracking data from the deep space network. The glider is going to pass
relatively close to Jupiter. We're hoping if we can somehow nudge your
trajectory just a bit, you can perform a sling-shot manuver back toward
earth. Message ends 1430 zulu."
Paul: "A time lag. Good thinking , Major."
Jack:
"Uh, flight? Digger 1. We've got two aim 120 alpha rocket motors that may,
I'll say again, may, be at our disposal. Can we override the release mechanism
and keep them attached through burnout? If so, we'll need to calculate
where, when, and duration of burn. Digger 1 at 1458 ZULU."
General Hammond: "Major Davis?" Paul: "They wanna cook off the missles, sir." General Hammond: "What for?" Sam: "If we can get enough Delta-V out of the missles' rocket motors, our plan might still work. We'll need an override procendure. Can you do it?" Paul: "Yes, that's the easy part." Sam: "Talk them through it. I'll need half an hour to make the burn calculations, sir." Paul: "Half an hour? Major, don't
get me wrong, but th-the margin for error for
Sam: "That's the time that we've got." Paul: "I realize that! They thrust in the wrong direction, they hit Jupiter." Sam: "Wait any longer, and we're too late. Sir?" General Hammond: "Do it." Paul: "Okay, missle selection switched to aim 120-A. Air-to-air radar mode to 4." Jack: "Slow down for cryin' out loud." Paul: "You'll see an outward range message. Enter 'update' and load the figures I read you previously, which will override the firing inhibitors." Jack: "Teal'c, ya gettin' all this?" Paul: "Now, at that point, you will get a tone."
Paul:
"No propulsion of any kind and limited consumables, and the attempt to
change their course has damaged both their life support and power systems.
Now, for the moment, we're recommending a complete shutdown of all non-essential
systems."
Daniel: "Maybe there's a way they can disconnect or override whatever it is that locked them out in the first place." General Hammond: "It's worth considering." Sam: "No, sir, I don't think it is." Daniel: "Why not?" Sam: "Well, it's logical to assume that there's also a failsafe mechanism to prevent the pilot from attempting exactly that." Paul: "Well, we don't know that for a fact." Sam: "Yeah, but it makes sense. At this point, I recommend we concentrate on ways to maximize life surport." Paul: "The engineers who designed the X-301 are running scenarios now. Now, they can scrub the CO2, but oxygen and power are going to be a problem now, and it is going to get cold up there." General Hammond: "Dr. Jackson?" Daniel: "The Tollen regret they don't have a spacecraft either fast enough or close enough to get there within a year." General Hammond: "And the Tok'ra?" Daniel: "Ehh yeah. Umm, I spoke with Anise personally. She said they had a scout ship within a, a day or so of earth, barely, uh, but it's on a covert mission to a Goa'uld-occupied world, and the High Council doesn't want to expose their operative by... making... contact." Paul: "Then why would they bother to tell you that much?" Daniel: "They hope that the operative will complete the mission and report back to the high council in time to help Jack and Teal'c." General Hammond: "I assume Anise refused to say where or what this covert mission was." Daniel: "And to understand not wanting to jeopardize the life of a Tok'ra important to both of us. I mean, I sort of lost my temper, but, uh, she said she was doing us a favor by telling us as much as she did." Sam: "Maybe she was. I mean, we know
a scout ship's maximum speed from our
Paul: "So... that narrows it down."
Paul:
"General, sir, Major Carter and Dr. Jackson are now aboard a Tok'ra acout
ship piloted by her father, sir. We're designating it Digger 2.
General Hammond: "I call that good news, Major. What's the problem?" Paul: "We only received the one coaded message, sir, before they made the jump into hyperspace. Now, by my calculations, even at the scout ship's top speed, Colonel O'Neill and Teal'c will be dead by the time they arrive."
Jack:
"I'm trying to sleep, but it's hard. CO2 levels are high. Headache is bad.
Send asprin. I estimate three hours. This is Digger 1."
Paul: "Shall I respond, sir?" General Hammond: "Do we have any new information to pass on?" Paul: "No, sir. Not since Major Carter reported they boarded the scout ship." General Hammond: "Let the man try to sleep." Paul: "Yes, sir."
General
Hammond: "It's been almost three hours. I'd like to send a final message
to Colonel O'Neill."
Paul: "Yes, sir."
Sam:
"Flight, this is Digger 2 . We have Colonel O'Neill & Teal'c aboard!
They're both alive!"
Paul: "Yeah! Well done, Digger
2! Well done! Congratulations! Now come on home!"
